The Team...

Laurie Geoghegan

Laurie got hooked on the ocean after spending several years in the Royal Australian Navy where his love of the ocean and its environment begun.

Following his years in the RAN blowing things up, he lived in harmony with nature on a commune near Cape Tribulation where he took up sea kayaking and his love of this sport flourished. It is also said he hasn’t had his hair cut since leaving the RAN.

Bushwalkers have a saying ‘Leave only foot prints take only photos’.  Laurie took up sea kayaking and didn’t even leave the footprints!

Laurie now lives in Brogo on the Far South Coast of NSW where he built a mud brick house in which he is helping to raise his family. Laurie has become a member of that mysterious tribe known as the south coast hard men and reckons Antarctica won't be much colder than where he presently lives!!

Laurie has a wife (Nadia) and three young children: Zac, Aysha and Finlay.  Like Andrew, Laurie loves to routinely do yoga to help his body maintain flexibility.

Having recently had his kayaking disrupted by a very nasty White Tail spider bite, Laurie is looking forward to Antarctica where he’s much less likely to get bitten.

Stuart Trueman

Stuart is a well respected sea kayaker and an experienced mountaineer, with many hard routes in the European Alps and in Scotland to his credit.  He spent his youth in Southern England before immigrating to Australia to be with Sharon, his Australian  wife. He came to the sport of sea kayaking after a knee injury and finding out that you can carry much more gear in a sea kayak than you can in a rucksack.

Since taking up the sport Stuart has earned respect from the paddling community by completing many challenging solo trips such as Devonport to Hobart via the fearsome west coast of Tasmania; Sydney to Melbourne; Sydney to Brisbane; and a circumnavigation of Kangaroo Island in South Australia.

Stuart is an Australian Canoeing qualified Sea Kayak Instructor and can be found passing his skills onto new paddlers at many venues along the NSW coast throughout the year.

Stuart lives close to Andrew in the Blue Mountains near Sydney with his wife Sharon and two daughters, Britanny and Ella.

Stuart hates to do yoga!! He prefers whiskey and cigars!!

Andrew McAuley (by Laurie & Stuart)

Andrew is one of those adventurers who keeps raising the bar to achieve greater and greater goals.

Andrew has been paddling for some time now.  He took up this sport after spending time in South America on a mountaineering trip that required sea kayaks to get around; it was this expedition that got him hooked on the sport.

He has now paddled numerous first crossings which gave him the experience to tackle a record non stop direct crossing of Bass Strait in 2003 followed by a direct crossing of the Gulf of Carpentaria in 2004.

Andrew now lives in the Blue Mountains near Sydney with his wife Vicki and young son Finlay where he can be found riding/climbing/paddling or enjoying any other outdoor pursuit. To keep himself supple Andrew is known to perform some body twisting Yoga moves while in camp each evening.

This web site shows some highlights of Andrews past adventures.

Most seasoned adventurers would consider any one of them an achievement of a lifetime. Andrew uses them as stepping-stones to greater things.

Anybody who participates in one of Andrew’s projects can’t fail to be impressed with his preparation and planning.  His endless energies are put to use well before any adventure reaches the point of putting on boots or grabbing the paddle ensuring all goes well.

Andrew does not drink or smoke so he’s not perfect!
